Salary Grade – Spinal Column Range – 5 to 6
Salary Range – £25,583 – £25,989 (£13.26 – £13.47 per hour)
Hours of Work – 37 hours average (39 April – September, 35 October – March) across Monday – Sunday
(Actual working hours and working arrangements will be subject to agreement).
Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
Occupational Sick Pay arrangements are covered by the National Agreement for Local Government Services (Green Book).

The Council is seeking to recruit a casual gardener/gravedigger to join our team to cover Monday to Sunday working days. Whilst the preference is to recruit someone with experience of the role or similar, anyone with significant potential will be considered.

The main focus of the job is grounds maintenance of parks, play areas, cemetery and other green spaces, digging and re-opening of graves with mechanical and non-mechanical equipment, grass cutting, strimming and maintenance of sports pitches. Staff are required on a rota basis to lock and unlock parks and cemetery every day including weekends. The time of the evening lock up can be as late as 9pm in mid summer.

You will be expected to work at sites within Horden Parish Council’s ownership, as and when required.

The village of Horden is situated on the East Durham Coast, it is a former mining community with a population of approximately 8,000. We manage a range of sites including an award winning former Miners Welfare Park and cemetery.

The village is easily reached by car from the A19. There is a regular bus service and a train station.
